YouTube is tightening monetization conditions for video creators

The number of low-quality, repetitive videos created using artificial intelligence (AI) technology on YouTube has increased alarmingly. As a result, the quality of videos on YouTube has decreased, as well as negatively affecting the monetization system. And so YouTube has created new policies to deal with the situation. The new policies will be implemented from July 15. The new policies have made the monetization conditions for creators involved in the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) stricter. Under the policy, if clips are collected from multiple old videos and new videos are created using AI, they will not fall under monetization.

Video creators are giving great importance to this new change, because currently many people regularly create videos using AI and publish them on YouTube. With the increasing use of generative AI tools, the number of low-quality videos created with AI voices and old video clips on YouTube has increased. Many people refer to such videos as ‘AI slop’. YouTube has created the new policies mainly to prevent the spread of such videos. There has also been some confusion among creators about YouTube’s new policies. However, YouTube’s Head of Editorial and Creator Liaison Rene Ritchie said in a video message that the decision was made to more effectively enforce the old policy. Repetitive videos have always been outside of YouTube’s monetization policies. We are now going to enforce them more clearly.
