Young man shot dead in Chandpur!

Miscreants hacked and shot dead autorickshaw driver Mizanur Rahman Abhi (35) in Hashimpur Bakultala area of Ekhlaspur union in Matlab Uttar upazila of Chandpur due to a previous enmity. The incident took place on Wednesday morning, north of Mintu’s shop on the road to Ekhlaspur launch ghat in the upazila.

The deceased Abhi is the son of the late Fazlul Haque Qazi of Kazi bari of Ekhlaspur village.

Locals said that Abhi lived with his family in Narayanganj and earned his living by driving autorickshaws. He used to come to the area every few days. He came to the area from Narayanganj 4-5 days before the incident. Recently, he had a dispute with local Nahid Gazi (35) over dominance.

Nahid Gazi is an active member of a professional robber and terrorist gang and several robbery cases are pending against him in court.

This morning, a local man named Kamal saw Abhi lying in a bloody state on the road on his way to Ekhlaspur launch pier for business and informed the locals. Later, the locals rescued him and took him to the Upazila Health Complex, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Abhi’s friend Nr Alam Bepari said, “On the day of the incident, at around 3:15 am, Nahid Gazi’s brother Nazmul Gazi called me from his phone and said, ‘I have eaten Abhi, I will eat you too.’ At that time, crying could be heard from the other end of the phone.”

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Matlab North Police Station Md. Rabiul Haque said, “Upon receiving the news, the police have collected necessary evidence from the scene. A special operation is underway to arrest the accused. Initially, it is believed that the murder was committed due to a previous dispute. The body has been sent to the morgue of Chandpur Government General Hospital for autopsy.”

Assistant Superintendent of Police (Matlab Circle) Md. Khairul Kabir said, “The deceased had injuries on various parts of his body and a bullet wound to the head above his right eye.”
