BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that it is possible to hold national elections before December this year. He said, ‘Elections can be held before December. Why do we have to wait until December for this, it can be held before that.’
Amir Khosru made these comments to reporters after the ‘Capital Market in Bangladesh Discourse: Philosophy and Practice’ program organized by the DSE Brokers Association of Bangladesh (DBA) at Nikunja in the capital on Saturday.
Amir Khosru said, ‘What the people of Bangladesh have been waiting for for the last 16 years is elections. Elections are the way to move towards a democratic environment.’
In response to a question about the news of the resignation of the interim government’s chief advisor, he said, ‘Where is the crisis, we do not see any crisis in the country. These are not a matter for discussion. The topic of discussion is, how quickly we can move forward on the path of democracy in Bangladesh and restore democratic order.’
He further said, ‘A democratic government-parliament will be formed in Bangladesh through a fair election, which will be responsible and accountable to the people. For which the people of Bangladesh have sacrificed for the last 16 years – this is the main topic of discussion.’
