What are the chances of Trump winning the Nobel Peace Prize?
President Barack Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize shortly after taking office in 2009. Since then, Donald Trump has been chasing the Nobel Prize. After being elected for the first time in 2017, he got many people to nominate him for the prize. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe even wrote a similar letter at his request. Trump himself proudly said that the five-page letter that Abe sent to the Nobel Committee for him was one of his favorite gifts. But his luck did not break, the Nobel Prize remained a golden deer for him. However, this time his luck may change.
What are the chances of Trump winning the Nobel Peace Prize?
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to the White House this week. He was invited to dinner. There were a couple of dozen dignitaries from both countries on both sides of the table, and before the meal began, Netanyahu suddenly took out a letter from his pocket in a rather dramatic manner. He said that he had written a letter to the Nobel Committee recommending Trump for the Nobel Prize. A copy of that letter. ‘Trump is establishing peace in one country after another, he definitely deserves this award.’
Trump was visibly surprised. He said that he was very happy with this recommendation. But there were also doubts. Will the ‘liberal’ members of the Nobel Committee give me this award again?
Trump has previously spoken of his frustration with the apparent bias of the Nobel Committee. At an event in Las Vegas in 2020, he also said that if his name was Obama, he would have won this award in the blink of an eye.
According to the Nobel Committee’s policy, only individuals or organizations that play a role in increasing friendship between countries, eliminating standing armies from the world, or advancing the peace process will be nominated for this award. Those who can send nominations include heads of state, ministers, or top judges. Apart from this, the committee has its own authorized individuals and organizations that can send recommendations for the Nobel Prize.
This year, in addition to Netanyahu, Pakistan has recommended Trump for this award. Last month, Pakistani Army Chief Asif Munir handed Trump a copy of the recommendation sent by his government during a luncheon at the White House.
