We are monitoring the Iran-Israel war, but fuel prices should not increase now: Financial advisor

The Finance Advisor said this in response to questions from journalists after the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Government Procurement at the Secretariat on Tuesday. The Finance Advisor was asked whether the Iran-Israel war would have any impact on the price of fuel oil.

The Finance Advisor said that the purchase orders that have been placed have not been affected. Everything is being monitored. The liquefied natural gas (LNG) import that has been approved today is at the old price. It is fortunate that it was available at the old price. There may be some impact in the future.

In response to the question of what the alternative thinking is if the war is prolonged, the Finance Advisor said that the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources is definitely thinking about alternatives. Because, due to the war, along with fuel oil, fertilizer and shipping may also be affected. Ships that come through the Strait of Hormuz may be affected. However, it seems that the war will not last long.

Meanwhile, the procurement committee has approved the proposal to import one cargo of LNG from the US company Accelerate Energy LP. One cargo is equal to 3.36 million metric British thermal units (MMBTU). The total cost of this will be 621 crore 85 lakh taka. The price per MMBTU is 15.17 US dollars.

The proposal for the completion of one project has been canceled in the meeting. This is the ‘Emergency Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Various Roads, Bridges and Culverts under the Sunamganj and Habiganj Road Divisions Affected by the 2022 Floods’ project.
