Police have arrested a young man after a video of a woman being publicly beaten up at Sugandha Point on the Cox’s Bazar beach went viral on social media.

The young man was arrested from the Sugandha Point area of the beach around 11 am today, Monday. Cox’s Bazar District Police Spokesperson and Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter. Police said that on July 24, around 11 am, a young man physically abused his wife at Jhaubagan in Sugandha Point. The video of the incident went viral on social media and came to the attention of the police. After that, a team from Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station conducted a drive and arrested him today. The woman was also rescued and taken into police custody.
Police further said that the arrested young man and the woman who was tortured are husband and wife. Their home is in Comilla. The couple came to Cox’s Bazar a day before the incident (July 23). There have been allegations of torture against the husband for demanding dowry for a long time. Initial investigation revealed that he had beaten his wife on the day of the incident to demand dowry. The police station is in the process of registering a case in this regard.
