Mohammad Shahid (24), a university student, has died at the hands of his father in Mirsharai, Chattogram. The deceased Shahid is the son of Nuruzzaman from the west Mayani village of Mayani Union. This incident occurred in the courtyard of Shahid’s house around seven o’clock in the evening today, Wednesday. He was a seventh-semester student of the Computer Science department at Chittagong Islamic University.
Shahed’s mother Kamruzzaman told Prothom Alo, “I had a family with two daughters and a son. Shahed’s father is a Saudi expatriate. He came home a few days ago. He has mentally tortured us for 15 years. Yesterday he got married for the second time and brought his new wife home. As a result, we had a quarrel with him. At four o’clock in the afternoon, we filed a general diary at Mirsarai police station. The incident took place around seven evening when the father was talking to his son. At that time, he (father) stabbed my son in the chest with a knife in his hand and the boy fell on the spot. For what crime did you kill my son? Is there a father in the world who can kill his son with his own hands? I want justice for my son’s murder.
Arya Raj Dutta, a doctor on duty at the emergency department of Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex, said a young man was brought to the hospital with a stab wound on the right side of the chest around seven in the evening. He died before he could be brought to the hospital. It appears that the death was due to internal bleeding. The body has been handed over to the police.
The officer in charge of the Mirsharai police station, Atiqur Rahman, said that the police are forming a team to try to arrest the father. The body will be sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
