Before the sapling distribution started, Prothom Alo Cox’s Bazar’s own correspondent Abdul Kuddus Rana addressed the students. He said, “Cox’s Bazar is already at risk due to the effects of climate change. Due to the increase in the water level of the Bay of Bengal, various coasts of Teknaf’s Marine Drive, St. Martin’s Island, Kutubdia, and Maheshkhali have been eroded and flooded in July. The jhau trees on the beach are being uprooted. Apart from this, natural disasters are occurring frequently. In spite of all this, we are constantly destroying life and nature by destroying mountains and forests. As a result, people are suffering from various diseases. There is no alternative to planting trees to protect the environment. The sapling distribution program was hosted by Saiful Islam, President of Prothom Alo Bandhushabar Cox’s Bazar City College. Rabiul Islam, Regional Manager of BRAC Cox’s Bazar, delivered the welcome speech. MM Sirajul Islam, Director General of Baitush Sharaf Complex, addressed the students, highlighting the benefits of the two trees for health. He said that the leaves, stems and juice of the neem tree can be used for various purposes. Especially, it removes dandruff from the skin, hair and human skin. It increases digestion and immunity. Similarly, the neem tree also has many benefits. Neem leaves contain a lot of vitamin C, calcium, potassium, iron and phosphorus. Neem stalks also contain a lot of vitamins and minerals.

Requesting to plant the saplings in their respective homes and take care of them, Baitush Sharaf Jabbaria Academy School and College Principal Md. Syed Karim said, although beneficial for health, the two trees are now on the verge of extinction. Tree plantation programs should be increased to protect the environment and health.

Cox’s Bazar Bandhushab Vice President Nurul Absar, Abdul Nabi, General Secretary Ulfatul Mostafa, Joint General Secretary Margub Morshed, Finance Secretary Uggya Marma, Cox’s Bazar City College Bandhushab Finance Secretary Shahidul Amin, Disaster and Relief Secretary Iqbal Hossain, Information and Communication Technology Secretary Ayesha Siddika, among others, also participated in the tree plantation and distribution program.
