Conspiracy to oust the government: Travel ban on Sheikh Hasina and 286 others.

News Desk:

The court has issued an order to ban the departure of 286 individuals, including the ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in a case filed for participation in the Zoom meeting of the Joy Bangla Brigade, accusing them of ousting the interim government and engaging in anti-state activities.

Today, Thursday, the plaintiff of the case, CID Assistant Police Superintendent Md. Enamul Haque, applied for a travel ban against the accused Sheikh Hasina and 286 others at the court of Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam. After the hearing, the court accepted the plaintiff’s application and issued a travel ban against Sheikh Hasina and 286 others.

On the other hand, today a date was set for the submission of the arrest-related report against Sheikh Hasina and 286 others. Since the police did not submit the arrest-related report against the accused, the court has set a new date for the submission of the arrest-related report for October 9.

Apart from Sheikh Hasina, the notable accused in the case are Dr. Rabbie Alam, Vice President of the United States Awami League, Kabirul Islam, a member of Joy Bangla Brigade, Advocate Kamrul Islam, Elahi Newaz Machum, Zakir Hossain Jiku, Professor Taheruzzaman, A K M Akhtaruzzaman, Awami League leader Sabina Yasmin, Azida Parveen Pakhi, Shahin, Advocate A F M Didarul Islam, Maksudur Rahman, former Member of Parliament Syed Rubina Akhtar, former Member of Parliament Pankaj Nath, Laila Banu, President of the Central Committee of Chhatra League Saddam Hossain, Ritu Akhtar, Nurunnabi Nibir, Sabina Begum, and Shariful Islam Ramjan.

The complaint in the case states that on December 19 of last year, during an online platform meeting, many expressed their commitment to form the ‘Joy Bangla Brigade’ and fight until their last breath to return the fugitive Sheikh Hasina to power through a civil war and ensure this. A total of 577 participants from various places around the country and abroad took part in the Zoom meeting, expressing their unified opinion to follow all the instructions of Sheikh Hasina. In a review of a voice recording during a conversation involving former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the host, co-host, and participating leaders and activists, it was discussed that participants from both home and abroad in the platform named Joy Bangla Brigade would not allow the legitimate government to govern the country peacefully.

In line with this, after the Ministry of Home Affairs sanctioned it, on March 27, 2025, the Assistant Superintendent of Police of the CID, Md. Enamul Haque, filed a case in court against Sheikh Hasina and 73 others for treason, as there appeared to be clear elements of a conspiracy to incite civil war to overthrow the current government during an online platform meeting.

After completing the investigation of the case, on August 14, the investigation officer, Mohammad Enamul Haque, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Cyber Investigation and Operations) of the CID, submitted a charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 286 others in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam.

The court accepts the charge sheet and issues arrest warrants against the accused. Today (September 11) has been set for submitting the report related to the arrests.
