The Dhaka-bound Intercity Express from Chittagong split into two at Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria while it was moving. The engine left the 11 rear coaches and took the five coaches that were attached. Since then, train services on the Dhaka-bound Chittagong-Dhaka and Sylhet-Dhaka railway routes have been suspended. The incident occurred near Ashuganj station in Brahmanbaria at 5:35 pm on Monday. According to sources at Brahmanbaria and Ashuganj railway stations, the Dhaka-bound Intercity Express from Chittagong left Brahmanbaria station at 5:15 pm on Monday. It reached Jatrapur area of Ashuganj in Brahmanbaria at 5:35 pm. At that time, the coupling of the train’s coaches broke. As a result, the train split into two and separated between the ‘T’ and ‘L’ coaches as it entered Ashuganj station. The engine left the 11 coaches behind and took the five coaches that were attached and took the five coaches that were attached. The train, without the rear coaches, went over the Ashuganj Meghna railway bridge about a kilometer away. The driver and conductor of the train on the bridge realized the matter and tried to turn back to the Ashuganj railway station. But at that time, the train’s engine broke down. This has stopped train movement on the Dhaka-Chittagong and Sylhet-Dhaka railway lines.

The incident spread panic among the train passengers. Many people jumped out of the train coaches outside the Ashuganj railway station in a hurry. The five coaches stuck in the Meghna railway bridge have been taken to Bhairab railway station along with the engine. The 11 coaches near the railway station in Ashuganj have been taken to that station with the engine of another train. The situation has not normalized until the last news was received at 9:20 pm.
Ashuganj Railway Station Station Master Shahidul Islam said that the 11 bogies that were separated from the train’s engine were brought to Ashuganj Station by the engine of the Karnaphuli train at around 7:45 pm. Apart from this, efforts are being made to keep the train movement normal on the down line. However, train movement on the up line is suspended.
