According to the Barisal Meteorological Department, 169 millimeters of rain fell in Barisal in 24 hours from 12 noon on Tuesday to 12 noon on Wednesday. This rain may continue for a few more days.
Due to continuous rain, several roads and alleys including Major MA Jalil Road (Nabgram Road), Jibanananda Das Road (Bogra Road), Karim Kutir, Brown Compound, including Barisal City, have been waterlogged. It can be seen on the ground that the entire road from Battala to the intersection of Major MA Jalil Road in the city is knee-deep in water. Residents are suffering due to waterlogging in the areas of Government Girls’ School, Oxford Mission area, and Munshir Garage on Jibanananda Das Road. Due to the continuous rains for three days, the entire Barisal region has been in a state of disarray due to the adverse weather conditions. The common people are not coming out of their houses much. Government and private offices are empty.
On Wednesday afternoon, Alamgir Hossain, a rickshaw puller, was standing on the road in the Banglabazar area of the city, waiting for passengers. The rickshaw puller, who had been drenched in continuous rain since morning, said, “I am going out on the road in Beinnahall, this is a bad one. I have only earned 80 thousand. I will have to pay 300 thousand to the owner as rent. The market is always there. Rice, the market is always there, no matter how much money I have, I will not be able to collect it. This situation has been going on for three days.”
