BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed said that some parties are talking about elections using the PR system. But most of the people of the country do not understand the PR system. They have never voted in this system. In some countries, elections are held using the PR system, in some countries it is still experimental. Those who talk about PR elections do not have votes. If elections are held, their deposits will be confiscated.
He said these things as the chief guest at a rally organized by the South Keraniganj Police Station BNP and its affiliates at the Chunkutia Girls’ High School ground in Keraniganj on Saturday afternoon. The rally was organized to demand ‘timely’ reforms and quick national elections.
The main speaker of the rally, Salahuddin Ahmed, said, ‘The students’ party is demanding that there will be no elections without fundamental reforms. We do not want reforms, we only want elections. Those who say these things have no votes. Those whose candidates could not become chairman and members are saying these things. We also want reforms, but through elections. Those who want to remain in power indefinitely in the name of reforms are talking about proportional elections. When we talk about elections, we are called agents. Who says these things? We want to say, Bangladesh first. During the previous government, our state was run from Delhi. We will never accept the domination of any other country again.’
The chief guest of the gathering, BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, said, “If all political parties including Awami League field candidates for 300 seats in the next election, then BNP will also field candidates for 300 seats. Then we will see who gets more seats. Who is more popular. Those who do not want elections are India’s agents.”
