The psycho thriller ‘Kanagali’ was released in Bengali yesterday, Thursday; the series was directed by young director Ahmed Jihad. Panic spread throughout the city. One woman after another is being murdered. The serial killer’s weapon is scissors, the police are in a frenzy to find the murderer. In the end, police officer Mahfuz takes over the investigation of the case. He gets caught up in the investigation. He cannot make any sense of the incident. Is it revenge, or the madness of a murderer?

Who is committing the murders? Why are women being selectively killed? Will the murderer’s whereabouts be found in the end? The web series Kanagali is about all these. The series, which was released in Bengali yesterday, was directed by Ahmed Jihad. This is the young director’s first web series. Jihad also wrote the screenplay for the series based on the story of Riddha Sharif. Jihad is currently in Saudi Arabia due to work. In an interview given to Prothom Alo yesterday, he said that he met the series’ storyteller Riddha Sharif on the way to Kishoreganj by train. Later, they connected with each other on Facebook. Jihad said, “After a few years, he came to meet me. He told me the story. I really liked the main part of the story. He was saying that he would write a novel about it. I said, let’s make a web series about the story. I spent about a couple of years on the story. Later, I discussed it with the producer.” After getting a producer, Ahmed Jihad started shooting in 2023. The series was shot in various parts of Old Dhaka, Uttara, Savar, Manikganj, etc. When asked about the story of the series, the director said that people with disabilities are victims of bullying in various ways. Most of the time, they suffer silently. What can happen if they get angry while enduring it? That story is presented. The director said that beautiful women in the city are being murdered. A web of mystery has been woven around the matter. Why is the series called Kanagali? In response to such a question, Ahmed Jihad said that although one murder after another is investigated, each investigation is futile. The investigation has to be started again. As a result, the name has been changed to Kanagali. Why will the audience watch the series? In response to the question, the director said, “We cannot make a thriller as exciting as the outside world. If we think globally, we are behind. But I can say this much that this is a series of our own stories. There will be a different flavor in the psycho thriller. We have such people around us.
