TCB to sell oil, sugar, and pulses by truck from tomorrow

Government agency Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will start selling oil, pulses and sugar in trucks for low-income people again. After being closed for almost two months, the organization will start this month-long program again tomorrow, Sunday. TCB gave this information in a press release today, Saturday.

TCB said that the program of selling TCB products (edible oil, sugar and pulses) at subsidized prices is underway among low-income families holding smart cards. In addition, products will be sold at subsidized prices through trucks to general consumers who do not have cards. During the last holy Ramadan, TCB sold oil, sugar and pulses along with chickpeas and dates at subsidized prices in trucks. After a few days, the organization sold products in trucks again during the last Eid al-Adha. TCB is going to start the truck sale program again after a break of about two months.

In the press release, TCB said that this program will be conducted in several districts including Dhaka, Chittagong, Gazipur and Comilla metropolis from tomorrow. Any consumer can buy products from the truck by standing in line.

A consumer can buy a maximum of two liters of edible oil (soybean or safflower oil), two kg of lentils and one kg of sugar from a TCB truck. Of this, the price of edible oil is 115 taka per liter. In addition, the company will sell lentils at 70 taka per kg and sugar at 80 taka. In this, the total cost of a customer to buy three products from the truck will be 265 taka.

TCB said that the sales activity will continue for a total of 30 days (excluding Friday) from tomorrow, August 10 to September 13, through 60 mobile trucks in Dhaka city. In addition, TCB will sell products through 25 mobile trucks in Chittagong city, six in Gazipur city, three in Comilla city and eight in Dhaka district, 12 in Comilla district, four in Faridpur district, five in Patuakhali district and five in Bagerhat district. These cities and districts will be selling products for a total of 19 days (excluding Friday) from tomorrow, August 10 to 31.

The press release said that each truck will sell edible oil, sugar and lentils at affordable prices for 500 people. Any consumer can buy products from the truck by standing in line.

In addition, regular activities to sell products will continue across the country through TCB’s Smart Family Card. TCB officials said that so far, smart cards have been provided to about 6.5 million families. Out of this, 5.4 million smart cards have been activated. That is, these 5.4 million families are currently able to buy TCB products. TCB is scheduled to provide smart cards to a total of 10 million families.
