The Indian cricket team was asked to stay in the hotel for security reasons after a suspicious package was received in Birmingham’s Centenary Square yesterday.

The Indian cricket team’s hotel was very close to the scene of the incident. A BCCI source told Indian news agency PTI that the players were asked not to go out after the Birmingham Police issued a warning on their X handle. The message given on X by the Birmingham Police read, “A suspicious package has been found in Centenary Square. We were informed shortly before 3 pm. As a precaution, some buildings have been evacuated. Please avoid the area.” Several Indian cricketers regularly roam around the hotel, especially Broad Street. However, eight players, including Shubman Gill, were practicing at the time of the incident. The remaining 10 were resting in the hotel.

The police reported relief within an hour. The cordon was lifted after confirming that the suspicious package was not dangerous.
