The Bera Municipal Authority has supported more than fifty volunteer students of the ‘Student Cooperation Organization’ of Bera Upazila in this work. Hundreds of people from Bera, Santhia and the neighboring Shahjadpur Upazila of Sirajganj come to spend time in the natural environment of the river every day. The crowd exceeds several thousand on festival days. It is also known as ‘Mini Cox’s Bazar’ during the rainy season. However, due to the dirty environment, travelers were getting bored sitting on the banks of the river. Despite repeated demands for cleanliness from the locals, no initiative has been taken by the municipal authorities so far.

In such a situation, members of the voluntary organization called ‘Student Cooperation Organization’ of Bera Upazila took part in the cleanliness drive. The organization’s president and university student Mehrab Hossain said, ‘We have been feeling pained by the dirty garbage in this only entertainment center of Bera for quite some time. So we all decided to clean it together. Today, we were able to clean a large part of it.’

Not only students from schools and colleges in the municipality, but also students from various universities in the country participated in this program. This cleanliness drive lasted from morning to 1 pm today. The municipality provided equipment, garbage trucks and manpower. Bera Municipality Administrator and Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Morshedul Islam cooperated in this overall.

Ninth grade student Zubair Fakir said, ‘We often come to this place. The garbage and garbage used to be there, but now it has been cleaned a lot.’ Md., a 12th grade student. Sourav said, ‘We are proud that we were able to do such a thing on our own initiative.’

Abul Kalam Azad, a senior resident of the area and a college teacher, said, ‘For so long, it was not possible to sit properly in this place due to the dirty environment. It is very good to see the students cleaning that place.’

Bera Municipality Administrator and UNO Morshedul Islam said, ‘Bera students have cleaned the only entertainment center in the upazila on a voluntary basis, it is a matter of real joy and pride. On behalf of the municipality, we are providing all kinds of support to the students in this work.’

Regarding this, about eight years ago, a few students of the local Bera Bipin Bihari Pilot High School formed the ‘Student Cooperation Organization’. More than a hundred students are associated with this organization.
