Stokes fined along with points deduction
England have been deducted two Test Championship points for their slow over-rate in the Lord’s Test. The ICC said in a press release today. England took a 2-1 lead in the five-Test series after defeating India by 22 runs in the Lord’s Test. England have 24 points from 3 matches in the World Test Championship points table. Their points tally has dropped to 22 with the deduction of 2 points. England’s points percentage has also decreased. The points percentage has dropped from 66.67 to 61.11 percent. This has dropped Ben Stokes’ team from second to third place in the points table. Sri Lanka are second with 16 points and a 66.67 percent point rate in 2 matches. Australia are at the top with 36 points and a 100 percent point rate in 3 matches.

England have been fined 10 percent of their match fees for not completing their overs in the time they were supposed to take the field. According to Article 16.11.2 of the World Test Championship Playing Conditions, if an over is not completed within the allotted time, 1 point will be deducted for each over that is not completed. England captain Ben Stokes admitted his guilt, so no further hearing was needed. He accepted the punishment given by the match referee of the Lord’s Test, Richie Richardson.
After winning the Lord’s Test, England now awaits Manchester. The fourth Test of the series will begin there on July 23. However, before this Test, England received some bad news. Off-spinner Shoaib Bashir has been ruled out of the series with a finger injury. Spin bowling all-rounder Liam Dawson has been included in the team in his place.
