Some random questions about the July Charter and warriors

July 24th to June 25th. Almost a year. The time is a little different. Did anyone think on July 1st last year that the situation would change as the month rolled around? In the beginning, there was the quota reform movement in government jobs. It transformed into a one-phase movement, Hasina’s removal. Then a miracle happened. Sheikh Hasina took the initiative with a bang. It was a terrible, incredible, breathtaking, dramatic, tragic turn of events.

Some random questions about the July Charter and warriors

There was no government in the country for a few days. Then came an interim government. There will surely be a movie about this thrilling episode of 100 hours of tension in the future.

But then? There are now many stakeholders in the country. Hundreds of political parties. Everyone is vocal. The smaller the party, the louder the voice of its leader. Everyone has become the guardian of the public. Now everyone’s eyes are on a charter. The July Charter will be prepared. It will be based on political consensus.

At the center of the July movement were the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement. This is all we know for now. We do not know the inside story. The ousted leaders of the Awami League, however, say that there was a deep conspiracy behind this movement. Conspiracy theories are a delicacy in the politics of this country. We have been chewing on them for decades, centuries. We see a conspiracy behind any change. I hope the peddlers of this theory will soon find out the whereabouts of the conspirators.

The talk was about the July Charter. August 5, 2024, was the D-Day or the culmination of change. This Charter was supposed to be presented at that time. A paragraph on what we want, where we want to go from here, what process we want to go through—all these things were expected at that time. People used to listen to the coordinators then. People had trust and love for them. That did not happen. This shows that everyone was unprepared for D-Day.

The government is now preparing a draft of the Charter that is supposed to be given to the protesters. That is, it is going to be a government Charter, where the support of political parties will be sought. It will be adopted on the basis of political consensus. Political consensus? What is that again? All parties want to insert some of their own ‘pet words’ or catchphrases into the Charter. Everyone will agree on this, this is nothing but a nightmare. I don’t understand how the opposing parties will agree on the wording of this charter. If they do, it will undoubtedly be another revolution.
