Desk Report,

Some quarters are questioning whether it is even possible for the government to hold elections.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that the question of whether the interim government can hold elections at all can no longer be seen as an isolated statement by some quarters. He said that democratic political parties should keep a watchful eye on whether anyone is trying to waste time on the national election.

Some quarters are questioning whether it is even possible for the government to hold elections.

The BNP Acting Chairman spoke at a program organized at the Krishibid Institution (KIB) auditorium in the capital on Saturday afternoon. He joined the program virtually from London. The program titled ‘Mass Uprising 2024: Contribution of Private University Teachers and Students and Memorial Meeting in Memory of Martyrs’ was organized by teachers and students of various private universities.

Speaking at the program, Tarique Rahman said that some brutal and unexpected incidents that have taken place in the country in recent times have raised questions about the capacity of the interim government in the public mind in some areas. Asked whether some are trying to create a purposeful situation in the country with the help of a section of the interim government, he said, “Listening to people in various places, including social media, it is clear that there is a question in the public mind about this.” At this time, he also said, “There is no opportunity today to see whether it is possible for the interim government to hold elections at all. It seems that such a question is raised by some quarters as an isolated statement. ”

If the structure of fascism in the country is to be completely dismantled, there is no alternative to establishing the political rights of the people through elections, said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He said, to establish a people’s government, it is necessary to have a democratic electoral system where every voter can elect the candidate of his choice without fear or worry. If the political empowerment of the people cannot be ensured, no arrangement will ultimately be useful and will not be sustainable.

Tarique Rahman mentioned that the countrymen must play a careful and responsible role so that no extremism or fascism gets a chance to be rehabilitated in the state and politics in the future due to any emotional or wrong decision.

Speaking as a special guest at the event, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “If we want to realize our dream of transitioning to democracy today, we have to be more vigilant and work more carefully for the future.”

Mirza Fakhrul called on everyone to work together to strengthen Tarique Rahman’s hand to build a truly independent, sovereign, non-communal, progressive and prosperous Bangladesh.

‘The word needs to be said’
Mirza Abbas, referring to the Jamaat’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, said, “I haven’t heard the sound of processions for 16-17 years. My house is on the side of the road (Shahjahanpur). I like it, but I don’t see who is going. So I heard that there is a good procession of Awami League going there. You can believe it or not. It needs to be said, I told you.’

This BNP leader said, ‘Yesterday (Friday) I saw another party’s march program, Awami League leaders were also seen there….The picture is coming, not my speech, brother….We will speak against Awami League, and again we will dance with Awami League leaders on our heads…This cannot be allowed to happen.’

Noting that the movement for democracy in the country has not ended, BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moin Khan said at the event that the movement to bring back democracy was carried out by BNP and the student community that poured its blood, hundreds of boys from BNP-Chhatra Dal were among them.
