Local leaders of the NCP claim that the representative of the Ambari Hat leaseholder Anisur Rahman and members of the Parbatipur Upazila NCP Tariqul Islam and Jobaidul Islam were injured in the attack by the Union Youth Party. The Mustafapur Union Youth Party says that Union Youth Party Senior Vice President Riazul Islam Haji, General Secretary Abidur Rahman, Ward No. 4 Youth Party General Secretary Golam Rabbani and Union Volunteer Party Convener Asadul Haque were injured in the attack by the NCP.
Upazila NCP member Tariqul Islam said, ‘Mostafapur Union Jubo Dal demands 50 thousand taka every week from Ambari Hat. When we protested, they attacked 40-50 people. At that time, there were three of us including me, they were more in number. Two of us including me were injured in this. I am currently at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.’
On the other hand, Mostafapur Union Jubo Dal senior vice president Riazul Islam Haji claimed, ‘At least four of our leaders and workers were injured in the attack by the leaders of NCP’s Parbatipur Upazila branch. They have already received treatment.’
Confirming the truth of the clash, Parbatipur’s Ambari Investigation Center in-charge Md. Arif Hossain said, since morning, Mostafapur Union Jubo Dal and NCP leaders and workers took positions on both sides of the hat. Both sides were shouting slogans occasionally. Police members took positions between both sides to control the situation. The situation was normalized by convincing both sides. Then, around 11 am, when NCP representative Tariqul Islam arrived at the scene, a scuffle broke out with members of the local Jubo Dal. Police quickly reached the scene and brought the situation under control. Six people from both sides were injured in the incident.
Locals and witnesses at Ambari Hat said that Tariqul Islam, a representative of Ambari Hat’s lessee Anisur Rahman and an NCP member, was operating the hat around 8 am on Monday. Jubo Dal leader Abidur Rahman’s men came there and took a face-to-face position. The fight broke out around 11 am. Then, around 1 pm, Union Jubo Dal and Volunteer Dal leaders and activists formed a human chain in front of the gate of Ambari Degree College against the NCP leader and the lessee of the hat in protest of extortion, including charging 600 taka for the lease of Ambari Hat instead of 550 taka. More than a hundred leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Volunteer Dal participated in the human chain.
Mustafapur Union Jubo Dal’s Publicity Secretary Nazmul Shakib, Science Affairs Secretary Shakil Ahmed, Relief Affairs Secretary Ferdous Mondal, Jubo Dal leader Alamgir Hossain, Union Chhatra Dal’s Senior Secretary Abu Sayeed, and Mohila Dal’s ward president Aduri Begum spoke at the human chain.
Mustafapur Union Jubo Dal’s General Secretary Abidur Rahman said, “The lessee’s people and NCP member Tariqul Islam are taking more money than the lease price. When I went to the market to inquire about the matter, they pushed me into the office. Since I was alone, they beat me up indiscriminately.”
