Shamik is the new president of BJP in West Bengal

Keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections, the West Bengal BJP has changed the post of state president. The new president is the BJP spokesperson of this state, Shamik Bhattacharya. He replaces former president and Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar.

The West Bengal state assembly elections are scheduled to be held in April or May next year. Ahead of those elections, the BJP on Thursday appointed Shamik Bhattacharya as the state president.

After being appointed as the president, Shamik Bhattacharya said, “Trinamool will be abandoned from this state in 2026.”

Shamik Bhattacharya first won the by-election from Basirhat South constituency in 2014. He lost again from that seat in 2016. In 2019, he lost to Trinamool candidate Saugat Roy from Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency. He lost again to Trinamool candidate Aditi Munshi from Rajarhat-Gopalpur constituency in the 2021 state assembly elections. On April 4, 2024, the BJP elected him as a member of the Rajya Sabha. Since then, he has been a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament or MP.
