Senior Jatiya Party leaders are eager to remove GM Quader

Jatiya Party (JPA) top leader GM Quader is facing a challenge from within the party again. Sources said that a large section of senior leaders have joined the movement to remove him from the leadership, focusing on the party’s 10th central conference. This section is preparing to hold a conference on June 28 at the Jatiya Party’s central office premises in Kakrail, the capital. The party’s two senior leaders, Anisul Islam Mahmud and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader, are under its leadership.

It was learned from talking to the leaders concerned that Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ruhul Amin Howlader will be candidates for the post of Chairman and Secretary General in a panel ahead of this conference. They have taken the initiative to bring amendments to the much-debated Article 20 (a) of the party constitution at the conference. With the power of this section, the Chairman of the Jatiya Party can appoint, remove and replace any person in any position. They call this section extremely undemocratic and autocratic. Of course, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and his close leaders say that the initiative to challenge the party chief again is a new form of political change after the August 5 mass uprising. Its goal is the next National Parliament election. As was the case during the 2014 election. At that time, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad announced a boycott of the elections, but a section of the party, led by his wife Rowshan Ershad and senior leader Anisul Islam Mahmud, reached an agreement with the Awami League and participated in the elections.Latest

Jatiya Party (JPA) top leader GM Quader is once again facing challenges from within the party. Relevant responsible sources said that this time, focusing on the party’s 10th central conference, a large section of senior leaders have joined the movement to remove him from the leadership. This section is preparing to hold a conference on June 28 at the Jatiya Party central office premises in Kakrail, the capital. The party is led by two senior leaders, Anisul Islam Mahmud and ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader.

Talking to the concerned leaders, it has been learned that Anisul Islam Mahmud and Ruhul Amin Howlader will be candidates for the post of Chairman and Secretary General in a panel ahead of this conference. They have taken the initiative to bring amendments to the much-debated Article 20 (a) of the party constitution at the conference. With the power of this article, the Chairman of the Jatiya Party can appoint, remove and replace any person in any position. They call this article extremely undemocratic and autocratic.

However, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader and his close leaders say that the initiative to challenge the party chief again is a new form of political change after the August 5 mass uprising. Its goal is the next National Parliament election. As was also the case during the 2014 elections. At that time, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad announced a boycott of the elections, but a section of the party led by his wife Roshan Ershad and senior leader Anisul Islam Mahmud reached an agreement with the Awami League and participated in the elections.

I will contest for the post of Chairman and Ruhul Amin Howlader for the post of Secretary General. We want a change in the party leadership through the council.

Anisul Islam Mahmud, Senior Co-Chairman, Jatiya Party

GM Quader and his close leaders claim that a section of the Jatiya Party has now been baited into participating in the elections in order to create a division in the party and undermine GM Quader’s leadership. Falling for that bait, some of the senior leaders are making the Jatiya Party conference an occasion. They are bringing up the sub-clause (a) of Article 20 of the party constitution anew. However, these leaders have been following the party constitution and have been doing Jatiya Party politics for so long, many of them have also become members of parliament and ministers.

Responsible party sources say that after sensing the initiative of senior party leaders to bring amendments to Article 20 of the constitution at this year’s conference, GM Quader sent a notification to the media on June 16 and postponed the June 28 conference. The notification said that the conference was supposed to be held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship International Conference Center. The June 28 conference is not being held as the authorities have canceled the hall allocation for the conference center. The date and time of the conference will be announced subject to the allocation of a new hall. Party Chairman GM Quader wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) on June 16 informing about the matter.
