Section 144 withdrawn in Nabiganj, police file case over clash

A case has been filed in Nabiganj Upazila Sadar of Habiganj over a clash between two groups of villagers, including vandalism, looting, vandalism and arson in the town. Police filed a case with Nabiganj Police Station on Thursday, naming 32 people and naming four to five thousand unidentified people as accused.

Section 144, which was imposed in the town after the incident, was withdrawn after midnight on Wednesday. Nabiganj Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Ruhul Amin said that Section 144 has been withdrawn as the situation has normalized. Initiatives are being taken to resolve the issue socially.

Meanwhile, normalcy has returned to Nabiganj town today. Most businesses have opened. However, the shops and institutions that were damaged in the vandalism and arson have not yet resumed operations.

Former mayor of Nabiganj Municipality and convener of Nabiganj Merchants Association, Chhabir Ahmed Chowdhury, said, “Businessmen have suffered a loss of about 10 crore taka in this incident. Restoring peace is the most urgent thing now.” We sat with people from both sides. Since we have not been able to reach a solution yet, we will sit again today. Hopefully, we will be able to reach a solution on this issue.’

Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Md. Kamruzzaman said, there was sabotage including killing in the clash between the two groups of villagers. Till Thursday, neither side has brought a complaint to the police station. However, due to sabotage, looting, vandalism, arson and disruption of people’s security under the Special Powers Act, the police have filed a case against 32 people as plaintiffs and 4 to 5 thousand unknown people as accused. Seven people who were arrested earlier have been shown arrested in this case. The situation in the city is now quite calm.
