School and madrasa half-yearly exams postponed in Noakhali due to heavy rains and waterlogging

Due to the adverse weather conditions, the semi-annual examinations of all secondary level educational institutions in four upazilas of the coastal district of Noakhali have been postponed. As per the instructions, the examinations scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday and the following Thursday will be postponed. District Education Officer Nur Uddin Jahangir confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo at around 8 pm today, Tuesday. The District Education Officer said that due to continuous rain in Noakhali for two days, many educational institutions in Sadar, Subarnachar, Kabirhat and Companiganj upazilas have been waterlogged. Roads leading to schools have been submerged. In the prevailing situation, secondary education officials in those upazilas have sought instructions from him to suspend the ongoing semi-annual examinations of all secondary level schools and madrasas on Wednesday and Thursday. In view of which, he has asked to postpone the examinations for the next two days. In response to a question, the education officer said that the institutions have not been asked to close. Since the examinations are a sensitive issue, the two-day examinations on Wednesday and Thursday have been asked to be postponed. The next two days, Friday and Saturday, are already closed due to weekly holidays. It is hoped that the situation will improve by then.

When the matter was brought to the attention of the Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Istiak Ahmed, he told Prothom Alo that he was not aware of the suspension of secondary school exams due to waterlogging caused by heavy rains. The District Secondary Education Officer did not talk to him about the matter. He will talk to the Education Officer about this.
