Salahuddin calls for clarification on what the chief advisor-CEC discussed
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin paid a courtesy call on the interim government’s Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday. BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed called for clarification of what was discussed or met during this meeting. He said, “If the issue is clarified before the nation from both sides, then we will be assured.”

Salahuddin Ahmed said this while talking to reporters at his residence in Gulshan in the capital on Friday afternoon. However, Salahuddin believes that the chief advisor may have conveyed the message to the CEC to prepare for the elections before the start of Ramadan in the first half of February 2026.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin paid a courtesy call on Professor Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor to the interim government, on Thursday. BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed has called for clarification on what was discussed or discussed in this meeting. He said, ‘If both sides clarify the matter before the nation, then we will be reassured.’
Salahuddin Ahmed said this while talking to reporters at his residence in Gulshan in the capital on Friday afternoon. However, Salahuddin believes that the chief advisor may have conveyed the message to the CEC to prepare for holding the election before the start of Ramadan in the first half of February 2026.
BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed told reporters, ‘After the London meeting, we had called for the chief advisor to formally convey the message of the decision agreed upon in that meeting to hold the election in the first half of February 2026 to the CEC or the Election Commission (EC). We were waiting for that.’ He said, ‘The CEC met with the Chief Advisor on Thursday, after it was published, we expected either the Chief Advisor’s office or the CEC to inform the media about the discussions or meetings. We are guessing that the Chief Advisor may have conveyed the message to the CEC to prepare for the elections before the start of Ramadan in the first half of February 2026. We do not know whether this advice or instruction has really been given or not. If both sides clarify the matter before the nation, then we will be assured.’
Salahuddin said that the EC has said several times that all their preparations will be completed by September. They have also mentioned that it is possible to complete all the preparations by July. The preparation and updating of the voter list for the elections has been done. They have also processed other issues including purchasing necessary materials. The remaining process, if started, can be completed within three months. After the schedule is announced, there will be many activities like appointing polling and presiding officers, setting up polling stations, training, etc. These are ongoing processes. No preparation is required for these.
