The 20 top Pakistani women cricketers who are under contract have received such good news in the new contract. The new contract came into effect from July 1. The contract will expire on June 30 next year.

The biggest gainer in the new contract is Sadia Iqbal. This left-arm spinner, who is currently number one in the women’s T20 bowler rankings, has now received a contract in the ‘A’ category. Fatima Sana, Muniba Ali and Sidra Amin are in this category with her. All-rounder Alia Riaz, who was not in the contract last season, has been placed in the ‘B’ category. She is accompanied by Diana Baig and Nashra Sandhu. Diana has been promoted from ‘C’.

Meanwhile, off-spinner Ramin Shamim has moved up from ‘D’ to ‘C’ category. She is the only cricketer in this category. Three new players have been included—Natalia Parvez, Sidra Nawaz and Waheeda Akhtar. All of them have been placed in the ‘D’ category. Nida Dar, who took an indefinite break from cricket in April, was not included in the central contract. The PCB has newly introduced the ‘E’ category. This category is for emerging cricketers, where two young cricketers—Ayman Fatima and Shawal Zulfiqar—have got a chance. Both played in the 2023 Under-19 World Cup and are in the ongoing series against Ireland.

Earlier, in March, the PCB had released a list of 90 domestic contracts for the 2024-25 season with 90 women cricketers. The list included 10 experienced (international match-playing) Pakistani cricketers, 62 emerging players and 18 cricketers from the Under-19 team. Since then, there has been a lot of criticism about the monthly allowance of domestic women cricketers. The problem was not limited to low salaries, but lack of playing opportunities was also a major concern. Even if a woman cricketer participates in the three domestic tournaments organized by the PCB for women cricketers, and even if she is in every match and reaches the final of every tournament, she still gets a maximum of 31 playing days in a season.
