The Appellate Division has dismissed the state’s leave to appeal (application for permission to appeal) against the High Court’s verdict. The three-member Appellate Division headed by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury gave the order on Sunday. Earlier, the case was filed in 2010 against the then Managing Director of Grameen Bank, Professor Yunus, over a statement. He appealed to the High Court in 2011 seeking the dismissal of the proceedings of the case. The High Court declared the proceedings of the case null and void and gave its verdict on October 24 last year.

After the publication of the full judgment of the High Court, the state filed a leave to appeal, which was heard in the Appellate Division’s Chamber Court on July 2. That day, the Chamber Court scheduled the leave to appeal for hearing in the regular bench of the Appellate Division on July 27. In continuation of this, the matter came up on the agenda of the Appellate Division today.

Additional Attorney General Anik R. Haque was present in the court hearing for the state. Advocate on Record Toufiq Hossain was on behalf of Professor Yunus.

Later, Additional Attorney General Anik R. Haque said that the Appellate Division has dismissed the state’s appeal (leave to appeal).
