Robbery in Mirpur, 4 arrested including two former army personnel

Police have arrested four people, including a former lieutenant and a corporal, in connection with a house robbery in the capital’s Mirpur DOHS area.

A robbery took place at a house on Road No. 11 in Mirpur DOHS around 3:30 pm on Sunday. The owner of the flat in the house where the robbery took place is a retired major. Police said that a car was chased after the suspects and a car was seized after the incident.

Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told Prothom Alo that four people have been arrested and brought to the police station on charges of robbery. Their detailed identities are being verified. Police said that retired lieutenant Iftekhar and corporal Mukul are among the four arrested. The complaint states that five people, posing as law enforcement officers, entered the house looking for a person named Borhan. Then they packed the valuables of the house in bags.

At that time, local resident Harunur Rashid, considering the matter suspicious, chased the bandits on a motorcycle and started shouting ‘robbers, robbers’. Later, the vehicle was seized at the NDC check post at Mirpur 12.

Police sources said that Corporal Mukul met Harunur Rashid at a tea shop at Mirpur 10 on Saturday. Harunur Rashid worked as an informant for the law enforcement agencies. After being introduced, Corporal Mukul took Harunur Rashid to the house after informing him that he had a weapon.

Police said that five mobile phones, gold and diamond jewelry, a laptop, three watches, some cosmetics and some yaba were recovered from the detainees.
