Feni District Public Prosecutor (PP) Mezbah Uddin Khan confirmed this information on Tuesday afternoon.

Of these cases, 166 are under the Explosive Substances Act, 35 under the Special Powers Act and 22 cases related to gatherings and attacks in violation of the law.

Earlier, the Home Ministry had requested the District PP to take action on these cases in a letter on June 15. The letter, signed by Assistant Secretary of the Law-1 Branch of the Public Safety Department, Md. Mofizul Islam, said, “The government has decided not to prosecute these cases in Feni district under Section 494 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898.”

When asked, PP Mezbah Uddin Khan said that a list of cases to withdraw was sent to the Feni Deputy Commissioner from the Law Ministry. He got the list from there. After that, today, the PP office officials started sorting out which court the cases are in. They will apply for the withdrawal of the cases tomorrow, Wednesday, subject to the permission of the court.

District Municipality BNP member secretary Mejbah Uddin Bhuiyan believes that these false and harassing cases were filed against the leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliates during the Awami League era. He said, “These cases were filed from January 2009 to the mass uprising of 2024. These false cases were filed especially around the national elections of 2014, 2018 and 2024. The plaintiffs in most of the cases are the police and the missing people.”
