Primary Teachers Association President Aminul Islam Chowdhury has warned of a hunger strike to death from June 23 if the three-point demands are not implemented in the next general assembly on June 22. Khulna Divisional Teachers Association organized this rally to demand three points, including the realization of professional fair rights for nationalized primary school teachers.

The teachers’ three-point demands include the withdrawal of illegal letters related to time scales by resolving the bureaucratic complications created by the previous government for nationalized primary teachers, giving seniority based on 50 percent, that is, effective service period, and publication of gazettes of excluded head teachers.

Speaking as the chief guest at the rally, the organization’s central president Aminul Islam Chowdhury said that the time scale notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on August 12, 2020 for nationalized teachers due to bureaucratic complications of the previous government was illegal and misleading. The main objective of this movement is to withdraw this letter, give proper seniority and publish the teacher gazette of the deprived head teacher. Aminul Islam Chowdhury said, “We filed a case in this regard and got the verdict in our favor. But an appeal was filed by the previous government. The appeal is ongoing. Despite repeated requests and memorandums, we are not getting a solution to the problems day after day. Therefore, we are forced to call for a mass rally at the Dhaka Central Shaheed Minar on June 22. Thousands of teachers from all over the country will participate. If the respect and fair rights of teachers are not ensured, it is not possible to improve the quality of primary education. You will prepare when you go to Dhaka. If our demands are not met, the teachers will go on a hunger strike to death from June 23, the day after the rally.”
