Platini’s home robbed, thieves take 20 awards

French legend Michel Platini was the victim of a major burglary at his home yesterday. The incident occurred while Platini was at his home in Cassis, a town east of Marseille. The thief took several of his trophies and medals. After French radio RTL first reported the news, several sources confirmed the incident. RTL News reported that Platini, 70, went to see what was happening in the garden of his house after hearing noises. When he went, he saw a man wearing a hoodie and black clothes standing by the window. Platini could not catch the man. He fled. Platini then found signs of intrusion in his home. Platini had kept some trophies and medals in a small room in the garden. The thief took about 20 awards, including trophies and medals, from there, RTL News reported. Sources involved in the investigation and the Marseille prosecutor’s office also confirmed the matter to the news agency AFP. Platini, who won the 1984 Euro with France, is the former president of European football’s governing body UEFA. The former attacking midfielder, a three-time Ballon d’Or winner (1983, 1984, 1985), also won the European Cup (now the Champions League) with Juventus in 1985. Platini, who scored 41 goals in 72 matches for the French national team, also played in the semi-finals of the 1982 and 1986 World Cups.
