People blocked old documents of the Department of Education and Engineering

Desk report

In Barisal, two trucks of the Department of Education and Engineering have been blocked by local people with old documents. The documents were being taken to be burned. But why were they being taken to the river bank instead of being taken to the warehouse, a question has arisen in the minds of the public. On Friday (December 27) at around 7 pm, the people blocked the two trucks at Kagasura Bazar in Charbaria Union of Sadar Upazila, near Barisal city.

Locals said that yesterday there was a fire in the secretariat. Many important documents were burnt. Today, when two trucks loaded with old documents were being taken through this area, everyone became suspicious. No one had ever seen so many papers being taken to the riverbank through the market before. After the truck was stopped, the driver of the truck told them that these were government documents and would be burned, so the people informed the police.

The truck driver said that they had brought these documents from the Department of Education and Engineering. The people of that department had loaded the goods into their truck.

Executive Engineer of the Department of Education and Engineering, Barisal, Md. Shahidul Islam said that photocopies of various schedules collected since 1992 were deposited in the office. After talking to the higher authorities to clear the room, the documents were sent to the garbage dump to be burned. But instead of taking them to the dump, hired workers took them somewhere else for sale. Later, when the people stopped them, they were brought back with the help of the police. A decision will be taken after discussing with the district administration.

He said that while there are rules for selling old goods at auction, there are no rules for selling documents at auction. They have to be burned.
