Outgoing Foreign Secretary to go to Canada, not the US
The interim government has decided to appoint outgoing Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Canada. This has been informed by government sources. The proposal for his appointment as High Commissioner is expected to be formally submitted to Canada in a couple of days.

The interim government removed Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin from his post eight months after being given the responsibility. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States Asad Alam Siam is being appointed as the country’s next Foreign Secretary.
Additional Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam was promoted to the post of Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a meeting of the Superior Selection Board (SSB) last Tuesday.
After the government’s policy decision to reshuffle the post of Foreign Secretary, there was speculation that Jasim Uddin would be Bangladesh’s next Ambassador to Washington. But the government has decided to appoint him as Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Canada, not the United States. The government has decided to appoint Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Tarek Mohammad Ariful Islam, as the ambassador. And Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Canada, Nahida Sobhan, is being sent as Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to Geneva.
Md. Jasim Uddin, a 13th batch officer of the BCS (Foreign Affairs Cadre), took charge as the country’s 27th Foreign Secretary in September last year. He went on leave on May 22 after eight months of serving.
