Ordinance cunning has been resorted to in the revenue sector: Energy Advisor
Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan said this at a press conference organized in the meeting room of the Power Division at the Secretariat today, Sunday.
Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan also said that this ordinance will be amended. Just as the administration cadre will not have dominance in these two departments, neither will the officials of the customs and tax cadre be dominant.
He said that a separate policy will be suggested for the appointment of secretaries and higher posts in the Revenue Policy Division and Revenue Management Division. Eligibility criteria will be determined for the appointment of secretaries and other higher posts.
On May 12, the National Board of Revenue (NBR) was abolished and an ordinance was issued separating it into two departments, namely Revenue Policy and Revenue Management. NBR officials and employees staged a protest over this.
A committee headed by Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Advisor Fauzul Kabir Khan was formed to look into the overall issues including increasing revenue collection activities. Today’s press conference was called to inform about the progress of that committee.
Fauzul Kabir Khan said that the movement over this ordinance started due to the conflict between the administration cadre and other cadres. The ordinance was suddenly changed. Stating that there is a fundamental flaw in this ordinance, the energy advisor said that at one place it is said, ‘A suitable person will be made the secretary of the Revenue Policy Department. Who is this suitable person? Abul Barkat? How many problems have been identified in this ordinance. We will inform the Financial Advisor about the solution to these problems on behalf of the committee.’
Faozul Kabir said, ‘There will be no NBR. People laugh out loud when they hear the name of the institution. You all know why. It would be better if this name did not exist. Just as the administration cadre will not be in the Revenue Policy Department and the Revenue Management Department, there will also be no reporting by the officials of the customs and tax cadre.
