A man named Faruk Talukder (42) lost his life in a clash between two villagers over a post on Facebook in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj. He died on the way to the MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet for better treatment from the local hospital.

The deceased is the son of Awal Talukder of Timirpur village. He was an ambulance driver by profession. Nabiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Kamruzzaman confirmed this information to Prothom Alo. He said that the process of recovering the body of the deceased and sending it to the hospital for autopsy is underway.
According to police and local sources, local media worker Ashayed Ali was allegedly beaten up by another media worker Selim Talukder and his men in Anmun area of Nabiganj upazila on July 4 over a post-mortem on Facebook. At that time, people from Anmun village arrested two youths from among the attackers and handed them over to the police. The homes of the two youths given to the police are in Timirpur village of the upazila. The people of Timirpur village became agitated after the people of Anmun village caught their people and handed them over to the police. Local residents said that following the fight, people from Anmun and Timirpur villages announced on Monday afternoon and gathered in their respective areas with sticks. At one point, the two sides clashed in the upazila headquarters in the afternoon. In the clash that lasted for about an hour, people from both sides used various indigenous weapons including brickbats, spears, and sharp weapons. During the clash, nearly a hundred people from both sides, including Faruk Talukder, were injured. Several shops were vandalized. The entire upazila town turned into a battlefield. The army and police reached the spot after receiving information and brought the clash under control.
The upazila administration imposed Section 144 in Nabiganj town to control the situation. This Section 144 will remain in force till midnight on Tuesday, said Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Ruhul Amin.
