No compromise with old arrangements in electoral division

Pointing to a statement by BNP standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, National Citizen Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam said, ‘This is the power of mass uprising, this young generation does not believe in any electoral division. They will not compromise with the old arrangements in any electoral division.’

Nahid Islam said these words at a party rally organized in the Rail Road area of Bagerhat city on Saturday night.

Incidentally, in an interview given to UNB, BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed directly ruled out the possibility of forming an electoral alliance with long-time political ally Jamaat-e-Islami. However, he indicated that the door to talks with the NCP is open until the election schedule is announced.

At the Bagerhat rally, the NCP leader said, ‘The state needs to be reformed and the country needs to be rebuilt. The door is open for this. If you have not yet come to that door, if you have not yet come to the path of reform, if you support the old arrangements, if you continue the politics of extortion mafia and corruption, how are you seeing the people coming against you? You should be alert now after seeing how the student community is taking to the streets again against the extortionists and squatters in the universities.’

The NCP convener said, ‘We had a mass uprising against the dictator Hasina. We had a mass uprising against this mafia, corrupt, extortionist system. We have not been able to expel these extortionists yet, so we have come down to the streets again.’ He also said, ‘You have faith in us. We will definitely change this extortionist, corrupt and mafia system together. This is our commitment to the martyrs.’

Nahid Islam said, ‘We have to bring those fascist mass murderers to justice. We have to move forward through justice, reforms and a new constitution. We do not oppose any party, we do not speak against any party. We speak against the old settlement. We say against the old political culture….Those who are perpetuating the old settlement, the old culture of extortion, mafia politics, you all will have to stand against it again, speak again, take to the streets again.’
The NCP leaders came to Bagerhat on the 12th day of the July Padayatra program to build the country. Although the rally in Bagerhat city was supposed to start on Saturday afternoon, the leaders reached the rally venue around 8 pm due to delays on the way. Then the rally started.
