Neymar’s fans would have been happy at least with the news that their favorite footballer is now in the discussion about the incident on the field. But that has also given rise to a lot of controversy. Neymar played in the top league of Brazil last night. His team Santos lost 2-1 to Internacional. With this loss, they have also fallen into the relegation zone.
Santos were 2-0 behind at their home ground Estadio Villa Belmiro. However, in the end, the team showed signs of turning around. Neymar’s attacking partner Alvaro Barial scored in the first minute of added time.
Santos then continued to attack in the hope of an equalizer. A couple of minutes before the referee blew the final whistle, Neymar took a powerful shot with his left foot. The ball hit the right post and Internacional goalkeeper Sergio Rochet jumped and gloved it. But Neymar thought the ball had crossed Internacional’s goal line before Rochet could glove it. So he started celebrating after conceding the goal. At the last moment, Neymar became so excited that he kicked the corner flag and broke it. He even almost took off his jersey. Santos fans also celebrated, thinking Neymar had equalized. But the referee thought the ball had not crossed Internacional’s goal line. So he signaled for play to continue. Frustrated by this, Neymar knelt down and protested the referee’s decision with his hands. Shortly after, the referee blew the final whistle.
It didn’t end there. Before leaving the field, Neymar also got into an argument with a Santos fan near the gallery.
Brazilian football platform Planeta do Futbol claims that Neymar had a heated exchange with the fan. The 33-year-old star used an unspeakable phrase to tell the fan, “Come here if you can. Otherwise, go to the goal!”
After about 30 seconds of arguing, the situation calmed down when teammate goalkeeper Joao Paulo removed Neymar. Getting into arguments with fans is nothing new for Neymar. However, since returning to his boyhood club Santos, he has become a little more agitated on the field.
