Desk Report,
The National Citizens Party (NCP) has alleged that an organizer was attacked and beaten up during a party campaign in Banshkhali, Chittagong. The party has alleged that BNP leaders and activists carried out the attack on Saturday night.
NCP Central Committee Joint Chief Organizer Emon Syed made the allegation in a post on social media Facebook. He also attached a picture of NCP organizer Tanvir Sikder, who was injured in the attack. Emon Syed told Prothom Alo that the party campaign was being carried out in Banshkhali upazila today (Saturday). At around 8:30 pm, BNP leaders and activists quickly went to the area and took away their banners. When they protested, they beat up Tanvir Sikder and cracked his head.
Tanvir Sikder told Prothom Alo that they were campaigning for the July march. At that time, followers of Liaquat Ali, former joint convener of Chittagong South District BNP and former chairman of Gandamara Union Parishad (UP) in Banshkhali, came and burned their banners. His head was broken in their attack.
He said that he had sought treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
However, Liaquat Ali denied the attack and beating. He told Prothom Alo, “I am staying in Dhaka. None of my leaders and workers are involved in the attack or beating incident. I have not heard about this. However, our workers have gone to their respective homes in a peaceful torchlight procession. If anyone has spoken about an attack, it is a lie. This incident is also part of the lies being spread against BNP across the country.”
When asked, Banshkhali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam told Prothom Alo, “We have heard about the incident. Efforts are being made to find out the details. We are investigating whether the incident took place or not.”
