Navy to operate Chittagong Port’s new mooring terminal

The Navy is being given the responsibility of operating the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of the Chittagong Port for the next six months. Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain told reporters after a meeting with the Chittagong Port Authority at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs gave in-principle approval in this regard last Tuesday. After that,
a decision was taken in a meeting of the Ministry of Shipping with the Port Authority on Wednesday to give the Navy the responsibility of operating the port terminal.

The Navy is being given the responsibility of operating the Chittagong Port’s New Mooring Container Terminal or NCT for the next six months. This was announced by Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain to reporters after a meeting with the Chittagong Port Authority at the Secretariat in Dhaka on Wednesday.

Earlier, the Economic Affairs Advisory Council Committee meeting on Tuesday gave in-principle approval to this matter. After that,

A decision was taken in a meeting of the Shipping Ministry with the Port Authority on Wednesday to give the Navy the responsibility of operating this terminal at the port.

Imported containers are unloaded from ships at the New Mooring Container Terminal using a gantry crane. Export containers are loaded onto ships using a crane. In addition, containers are stored, transferred, and goods are unloaded from the terminal premises.

Shipping Advisor Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain told reporters after a meeting at the Secretariat yesterday that the Port Authority has been given the responsibility of operating this terminal within a fixed cost for the next six months or more as per the rules. Now the Navy will sign an agreement with the port on this matter.

This terminal at Chittagong Port has been operated by a domestic private company for 17 years. The contract of Saif Powertech Limited, the domestic company currently operating NCT, expires on July 6. The Navy will be taking over the responsibility of operating this terminal from the next day, i.e. July 7.
