National mourning tomorrow over plane crash victims

A one-day state mourning has been declared tomorrow, Tuesday, in the wake of the crash of a training aircraft at the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara, the capital. This information was given by the Press Wing of the Chief Advisor on Monday.

On the occasion of state mourning, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions and educational institutions of the country tomorrow.

In addition, the national flag will be flown at half-mast in all government, private buildings and Bangladesh missions abroad. Special prayers will be organized in all religious places of worship in the country for the deceased and injured.

A statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the aircraft took off at 1:06 pm today, Monday. It later crashed.

At least two deaths have been confirmed in the incident as of 4 pm today. Rescue work is underway at the scene. The injured and burnt in the incident are being taken to various hospitals.

As of 3:30 pm, 28 people have been admitted to the National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute. Hospital officials say most of the injured are students. Principal Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus is expressing deep shock and sorrow over the plane crash. This information was given by the Principal Advisor’s press wing today.

In his condolence message, the Principal Advisor said, “The loss caused to the students, guardians, teachers and staff of the Air Force and Milestone School and College, including others, in this accident is irreparable. This is a moment of deep sorrow for the nation. I wish the injured a speedy recovery and instruct all authorities, including the hospitals concerned, to deal with the situation with utmost importance.”
