Names of 8 people removed from list of martyrs in July coup

The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has removed the names of eight people from the list of martyrs of the July Uprising. Four of them have appeared twice in the gazette. The remaining four were not directly involved in the July movement. This information was given in a notification issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs on Sunday night.

The four people whose names have appeared twice in the gazette are Shahjahan of Bhola (Gazette number 611), Badhan of Shariatpur (Gazette number 836), Musleh Uddin of Rampura, Dhaka (Gazette number 224) and Md. Roni of Savar (Gazette number 766). According to sources from the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Khalilur Rahman (Gazette number 229) Talukdar was a police member and his home was in Tangail. Jinnah Mia (Gazette number 375) was a jail escapee and his home was in Narsingdi. Bashir Sardar (Gazette number 823) was not involved in the July movement, he was admitted to the hospital due to illness and later died there. His home is in Patuakhali.

Towhidul Alam Jisan (Gazette number 818) died in a family dispute and a case is going on in the court regarding this. His home is in Narayanganj. He was included in the list of martyrs of the July uprising.

An official of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, demanding a transparent list, told Prothom Alo that further revisions will be made to the list of martyrs of the July uprising. There may have been some mistakes in the beginning. Now it is being revised.

According to the government gazette, the number of martyrs till August 2 was 844. After excluding 8 people today, the number of martyrs according to the new gazette is 836.
