Museveni announces he will run again in Uganda’s presidential election after 40 years in power

Musoveni is now 80 years old. Last night, President Musoveni announced that he will contest in the presidential election next year. He will represent his party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM).

Museveni came to power in Uganda in 1986, ending a five-year civil war. He has been the country’s president since then.

The NRM has amended the country’s constitution twice, removing the existing term and age limits for the president. As a result, there is no legal or constitutional obstacle to Museveni remaining as Uganda’s president.

Rights groups have accused Museveni of using the security forces and state-sponsored repression to consolidate his power. However, Museveni has denied these allegations.

President Museveni has said he wants to transform Uganda into a $500 billion economy within the next five years. To this end, he has decided to run for president again.

According to Ugandan government data, the country’s current gross domestic product is less than $66 billion. Voters will choose a new president and members of parliament in January.

Analysts say that one of the biggest challenges to Museveni, who has been in power for nearly four decades, could be opposition leader Bobby Wine. His real name is Robert Kyagulanyi. The 43-year-old was once a popular pop star. He later entered politics. Bobby is quite popular with the people of Uganda.
