The Janata Party Bangladesh has expressed deep concern over the brutal killing of businessman Lal Chand alias Sohag in Old Dhaka. The party said that the incident reminds of the Awami League massacre in 2006.
Janata Party Executive Chairman Golam Sarwar Milon and Secretary General Shawkat Mahmud said this in a statement on Saturday. They strongly condemned the murder and demanded the arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved.
Last Wednesday evening, a group of people brutally killed a scrap metal trader named Lal Chand alias Sohag (39) in public on the road in front of Mitford (Sir Salimullah Medical College) Hospital in Old Dhaka. Four people from the Jubo Dal, Chhatra Dal and Swechchhasebak Dal have been expelled from the organization for life in this incident.
The Janata Party said that regardless of political or business conflicts, a group of corrupt leaders of BNP affiliates stripped businessman Sohag naked and stoned him to death in broad daylight in Mitford area. The killers indulged in brutal joy during this tragic murder. The entire country has been stunned and speechless by this incident. This incident is reminiscent of the Awami League massacre in 2006. The statement mentioned that despite the ouster of fascism in the mass uprising, fascism is still entrenched in the mentality of a section of political leaders and activists. It said that the recent murder of a Jubo Dal leader in Khulna and the attack on an Imam in Chandpur are proof of this.
The Janata Party said that such heartbreaking incidents prove that the need of the hour is to prevent the deterioration of law and order amid reforms, trials and the election process. However, the government is continuously showing failure in this regard.
