Murder accused escapes Dhaka court by biting police

A murder case accused has escaped from a Dhaka court premises by biting a policeman. The accused, named Shariful Islam, had been in jail for six years. He escaped from the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court premises on Thursday afternoon.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of the Prosecution Department of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Main Uddin Chowdhury confirmed this information. He told Prothom Alo that initially it was learned that Shariful Islam was an accused in a murder case filed at Khilgaon Police Station. He was brought to the Dhaka court from the jail as the hearing of the case was scheduled. When he was being taken to the jail after the hearing in the court around noon, he bit the hand of police constable Shahidul Islam and escaped.

Stating that an investigation committee has been formed into the incident, Main Uddin Chowdhury said, “The investigation will reveal whether the police constable who took the accused to the court was negligent in the escape of the accused or not. If anyone is negligent in the escape of the accused, the DMP will take legal action against them.’

According to police information, a murder case was filed against Shariful Islam at the capital’s Khilgaon Police Station in 2018. He was arrested in this case and spent six years in prison.

Shariful’s village is in Dinajpur. The name of the village is Haripur. His father’s name is Shafiq Ahmed.
