Monsoon winds may cause moderate to heavy rain in Chittagong throughout the day today, Saturday. The sky will remain cloudy throughout the day, the sea will remain rough. The Chattogram office of the Meteorological Department has given this information. The rain has made the city’s broken roads worse. Office-going people have suffered due to this.
Mohammad Zahirul Islam, assistant meteorologist at the Chattogram office of the Meteorological Department, told Prothom Alo that 21 millimeters of rainfall was recorded from 9 am yesterday to 9 am today. However, heavy rains started after 9 am today.

Office-going people are suffering in the morning rain. Mohammad Misbah Uddin, who works in a private organization, was met at Gate No. 2 area of the city. His office is in the Agrabad area of the city. Misbah said that his house is on Road No. 4 of the cooperative residential area of Raufabad. Due to the rain, the earthen roads in the area have become muddy. This has caused suffering.
At least 30 to 35 roads in Chittagong city are now in a dilapidated condition. These include the main roads of the city, as well as the side roads. These include the city’s Strand Road, Hathazari Road, Fakir Mohammad Road, Kabir Ahmed Sawdagar Road, Akmal Ali Road, Pranhari Das Road, several roads in the Halishahar residential area, Abdul Hamid Road in Shulkbahar, Noor Ahmed Road, Jubilee Road, Ambagan Road, Shaheed Saifuddin Khaled Road, CDA Avenue, KB Aman Ali Road.
Local residents and road users have complained that the roads have not been properly repaired for years. Even if repairs are made occasionally, they are patchwork repairs. When it rains or heavy vehicles pass through, the roads break down and return to their old appearance within a few days. Due to this, not only are they having difficulty in commuting, but business and trade are also being affected.
Chittagong City Corporation Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman recently told Prothom Alo that several roads in the city are in bad condition due to heavy rainfall. WASA and the elevated expressway for the sewage project and CDA are digging various roads to relieve waterlogging. Although some roads have been severely damaged due to these reasons, major repairs are not being done at the moment. For now, they are being renovated to make them suitable for vehicular traffic.
