A terrible fire broke out in Sitakunda due to an electrical short circuit.

The accident occurred at around 9:30 pm on Friday at the Chairman Ghata in Madambibirhat upazila. The fire was brought under control after about two hours of effort.

According to local sources, the fire started from an electrical cable at the ‘Kamal Steel Ship Old Goods Sale Market’ owned by Qutubuddin Shibli at Chowdhury Ghata in Madambibirhat. The fire spread immediately.

Although the locals initially tried to control the fire, they failed. Later, after receiving information, the Kumira Fire Station staff reached the spot and brought the fire under control after two hours of effort.

According to locals, the fire broke out due to an electrical fault. In this, goods worth crores of taka including marine items of old scrap ships kept in the market were burnt.

In this regard, Al Mamun, an officer of the Kumira Fire Station, said, “After receiving the news of the fire, we quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control. Many shops in the market were burnt down. The exact extent of the damage will be known after the investigation.”
