Desk Report,
Liton is now the king of sixes in Bangladesh
It is necessary to focus more on smart cricket than trying to hit sixes – this is what Liton Das said before playing his first match in the Asia Cup. Perhaps to implement his words, he did not try to hit a six until the victory against Hong Kong was within reach yesterday.
Liton is now the king of sixes in Bangladesh
With just 20 runs away from victory and a personal score of 42, Liton tried his first big shot. That shot of a slug sweep through mid-wicket off Yasin Mortaza’s ball was a six. And with that, Liton is now Bangladesh’s king of sixes in international T20s.
Liton, who played his 111th match, went against Hong Kong with 77 sixes to his name. Mahmudullah, who said goodbye to international cricket last year, also hit 77 sixes. Liton made the joint record his own in the match against Hong Kong yesterday. And that is in 21 innings less than Mahmudullah. Liton further enriched his achievements in the domestic arena in this edition by becoming the owner of the highest number of sixes for Bangladesh in international T20s. He already holds two other important T20 records. One is the highest fifties. Earlier this month, he hit a fifties (73 off 46 balls) in the third match of the series against the Netherlands in Sylhet, making him the owner of the highest number of 14 fifties for the country. He surpassed Shakib Al Hasan. Apart from this, his strike rate (126.23) is the highest among batsmen who have scored at least 800 runs in international T20s for Bangladesh.
Another record for the country in T20s may soon belong to Liton. Shakib is now the owner of the highest number of runs for Bangladesh with 2551 runs in 127 innings. Liton scored 2496 runs in his innings of 59 runs in 39 balls yesterday. He will surpass Shakib with 56 runs.
However, at the speed Liton is running, it should not take him long to break the record for the highest run. He has scored fifties in three of the last four T20Is (54*, 18*, 73, 59).
And if he can maintain this consistency, it is a known fact that the Bangladesh team, which won by 7 wickets against Hong Kong yesterday, can do something good in the Asia Cup.
