Members of an identified terrorist and kidnapping gang in Gazipur hacked journalist Asaduzzaman to death. They chased a man with a country-made weapon. Journalist Asaduzzaman was recording the scene on his mobile phone. Then Asaduzzaman was chased and hacked to death. Police said this after seeing the CCTV camera footage of a shop at the scene.

Asaduzzaman Tuhin (38) was hacked to death at around 8 pm on Thursday in the Chandana intersection area of Gazipur city. He worked as a staff reporter for the Gazipur daily Pratidin Kagoj. His home is in Bhatipara village of Fulbaria upazila of Mymensingh. Regarding the murder, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Hasan said that some scenes of the moment before journalist Asaduzzaman was hacked to death have been found in CCTV camera footage. It shows that the identified terrorists and members of the kidnapping gang chased a person with sharp country-made weapons. Asaduzzaman was videotaping the scene from behind. Initially, it is believed that he was hacked to death for videotaping this scene.
The video shows that the incident took place on the west side of Chandana Chowrasta Mosque Market. Yesterday at 6:58 pm. A woman wearing a black dress was walking. A man wearing a blue dress pulled the woman from behind. When the woman tried to forcefully leave, the man went in front of her and stopped her. At one stage, the man slapped the woman. At that moment, some young men tried to beat the man with sharp weapons from the side. The man wearing a blue shirt ran away. Some time before the incident, journalist Asaduzzaman and his colleague Shamim Hossain were sitting in a shop in the Chandana Chowrasta area. Journalist Shamim Hossain said about the incident, “We were walking from one side to the other in the Chandana intersection area. At that moment, a woman and a man passed by us. At that time, some people with country-made sharp weapons started saying, “Here we go, come here.” The person tried to run away. Then they chased him with sharp weapons. Then Tuhin (journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin) took out his mobile phone and ran after them. Later, I went ahead to look for Tuhin. The armed men suddenly stopped and looked back. Tuhin then ran into a tea shop. At that moment, they also entered the tea shop, hacked him to death and fled. I kept looking for a police car in the intersection area. Unable to see any car, I called the OC of Basan police station. After some time, the police arrived.” The man who had a fight with the woman and later fled, in the CCTV footage, is injured and admitted to the hospital. His name is Badsha Mia. He said, ‘There is a team including that girl. They took money from me.’
According to police sources, there is a gang in the Basan, Bhogra and Chandana Chowrasta areas of Gazipur city who are involved in robbery. All those seen in the CCTV video are members of the robbery gang. There are multiple cases against them in different police stations. The woman seen in the video may also be a member of that gang. The gang robs people by setting various traps in the Chandana Chowrasta area.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Rabiul Hasan told Prothom Alo, ‘We believe that the girl in the CCTV camera footage is a member of the robbery gang. An operation has already been launched to arrest those involved in the murder.’
