Islamic Movement to hold rally on Saturday over three demands, including elections through PR system
On Thursday, a press conference was held at the central office of the Islamic Movement in Purana Paltan in the capital to highlight various aspects of the preparations for the rally and the participation of leaders of various political parties in it.
At the press conference, Islamic Movement Secretary General Maulana Yunus Ahmed said that the demand for reforms, trial and elections under the PR system has been taken to the people in every union and ward across the country. Mass processions and motorcycle processions have been taken out in the areas. He expects more than one million people to gather for the rally.
Yunus Ahmed said, “We are overwhelmed by the response we have received from people across the country to the campaign for the rally.” However, I have received allegations that a group of people, out of jealousy, tore down the banners of the rally in various parts of the country, including Munshiganj, to disrupt our campaign. This is very sad and an expression of neo-fascist behavior. I condemn such actions.’ At the time, Gazi Ataur Rahman, Joint Secretary General of the Islamic Movement and spokesperson of the party, said, ‘Leaders of almost all political parties participating in the anti-fascist movement have been invited to the rally. They have accepted it with enthusiasm. I hope that this rally is going to be a gathering of national leaders.’
In response to a question, the spokesperson of the Islamic Movement said that after the genocide trial and necessary reforms, they want national elections through the PR method.
Among others, Islamic Movement Bangladesh Joint Secretary General Ashraful Alam, Dhaka Metropolitan North President Sheikh Fazle Bari Masud, Assistant Secretary General KM Atiqur Rahman, Ahmad Abdul Qayyum and others were present at the press conference.
