India claims to have shot down 5 Pakistani fighter jets three months after the conflict
India has claimed to have shot down five Pakistani fighter jets and a large military aircraft during a military clash in May. The country’s air force chief, Air Chief Marshal A P Singh, made the claim on Saturday. This is the first such statement from the country months after the worst military conflict with the neighboring country in decades. However, the Pakistani military did not immediately agree to comment on India’s claim.
India claims to have shot down 5 Pakistani fighter jets three months after the conflict
It is worth noting that the two neighboring countries India and Pakistan were involved in a conflict after the killing of 26 tourists in Pahalgam in Indian-controlled Kashmir in April. They had reached the brink of all-out war. After four days of fighting on the border and in the air, a ceasefire agreement was reached between the two countries with the intervention of the United States.
At a ceremony in Bengaluru today, the Indian Air Force chief said, “Most of the Pakistani aircraft were shot down using the Russian-made S-400 missile system that India has.” This system can be used to launch long-range surface-to-air missiles to hit the opponent. He presented electronic tracking data as evidence for his claim.
Indian Air Chief Marshal A P Singh has claimed that the downing of Pakistani fighter jets and military aircraft has been confirmed through electronic tracking data. Electronic tracking data refers to information received from radar, sensors or other devices. This information can be used to determine the position, trajectory and speed of an aircraft.
A P Singh said, “We have conclusive evidence that at least five fighter jets and a large aircraft have been destroyed.” He added that the large aircraft was probably on a reconnaissance mission. It was shot down from a distance of about 300 kilometers (186 miles).
A P Singh also said, “This is the biggest record so far of downing an aircraft by firing a surface-to-air missile.” Hearing his words, the country’s air force officers, retired members and government and industry officials present at the event expressed their excitement with applause.
Indian Air Chief Marshal AP Singh did not say anything about the type of Pakistani fighter jets that were shot down. However, he claimed to have hit some other F-16 fighter jets stationed at two air bases in southeastern Pakistan.
Most of the fighter jets in the Pakistan Air Force’s fleet are made by China and the United States. The F-16 is a US-made fighter jet. Meanwhile, Pakistan has previously denied losing any of its aircraft in the conflict with India from May 7 to 10.
However, during the conflict, Pakistan claimed to have destroyed six Indian aircraft, including a Rafale fighter jet made by France. Initially denying this, India later admitted to the damage to some aircraft. But it has repeatedly denied losing six aircraft.
French Air Force Chief General Jerome Bellanger said that he had evidence of losing three Indian fighter jets. One of them was a Rafale. However, the Indian Air Force did not comment on his comments.
